Should You Bring a Vehicle?

We often get asked if a car is needed to get around the city, or if one should bring a car or any vehicle at all.  The short answer is no, don't bring one if you don't have to. Unless you're planning to travel to neighborhoods outside of the city, a car isn't needed, and is often more troublesome (and costly) than it's worth...especially if you'll be spending your time within the city or close proximity.  Parking is often a hassle, since most street parking is reserved for residents of each neighborhood (a resident parking sticker is required).  There are some metered spaces available, but they're often occupied, and finding an available space can take time and circling around blocks to find one - and then must be paid with quarters, or credit cards in some cases, or an app on a smartphone.  As for traffic - well, it can also get congested at busy times of the day, as you might expect.

The truth is, it's often faster and far more enjoyable to simply walk where you're going, or take a short subway ride, taxi, or ride-share service such as Uber or Lyft.   In addition, Amtrak commuter rail stations are not far away, and trips via commuter rail to some areas are very affordable and enjoyable.

That said, if you're planning to arrive with a vehicle, please refer to our parking policies and other options below.

Parking Policies and Options at Oasis Guest House

What you need to know:

  • A very limited number of spaces are available in a service alley behind our properties

  • Unfortunately we cannot guarantee availability of parking spaces

  • Advance reservations for parking spaces are not possible

  • Spaces are available first come, first served only

  • You may request a space when doing your mandatory pre-registration (three days before arrival). The morning of your arrival, we will send you a text message and/or email with a parking space assignment, or a message indicating that no spaces are available.

  • Small or medium sized vehicles only. Sorry, no pickup trucks, minivans, large SUV's or extended cab vehicles - they simply won't fit.  Vehicles must be no larger than the following dimensions:

* 16 ft x 6 ft  (192 inches x 72 inches)

If you're unsure of the dimensions of your vehicle, a quick search on Google will provide you the details

  • Parking spaces may not be available during snow storms, or any time the alley is not properly cleared of snow or ice as a result of occasional delay of services from the City of Boston

  • Unfortunately, we do not have handicapped accessible spaces, and there are none on the street near us.

Parking Rate:  $25.00 per night

(from arrival time until 12:00 PM on day of check out;  extended parking until 6:00 PM may be available for an additional charge - but is subject to availability and priority is given to incoming guests with vehicles)

While we often have spaces available, from time to time they do sell out. This is especially true during Red Sox games, local concerts, student move-in weekends, city events, etc. If our spaces are sold out, if you have a larger vehicle, or if you require sheltered parking, we will direct you to Westland Parking Garage at 35 Westland Avenue. This nearby public garage is at the end of the street (the corner of Edgerly Road and Westland Ave), just a short 2-minute walk from our location. For full details and their rate schedule, visit their website at Westland Parking Garage.  Please note we are not affiliated with the garage and we do not have any "validation" stickers, and we do not have any special pricing arrangement with any public garages or parking lots.

Alternatively, you may also use either the SpotHero or ParkWhiz apps, or their websites, where you can find, reserve and pay for a wide variety of local parking spaces in area garages, parking lots and other spaces.  See their apps or websites for more details:  SpotHero   ParkWhiz Both websites/apps will typically include listings for independent parking spaces in a garage located at 12 Stoneholm street (among other locations), which is an indoor residential garage just across the street from us.  The parking spaces are rented independently, and you must reserve them via either website or app - but you cannot just show up and rent a space in that garage. You must reserve it online and pay online in advance.

Please note that we don't have storage facilities for bicycles or other recreational equipment. If you plan to bring bicycles or other equipment to Boston, please make arrangements in advance for storage in a secure location.

Bike sharing from BlueBikes is available nearby for our guests who would like to enjoy the nearby bicycle paths and sightseeing.
